Weekday afternoons/evenings are generally best for me :)

I recently saw Vertigo at a theater in Paris and I am afraid that I will never see that film again without Davy's Jimmy Stewart imitation ringing in my ears at the climactic moment.

hey y'all. i guess this is the default announcements page. so...

here's some films at the pfa that i'm interested in going to. note that the screening on november 4 coincides with a possible 7th game of the world series -- in which case all best are off. but notwithstanding, is anybody interested in checking them out and going for drink afterward?

Thursday, November 4, 2010
7:00 p.m. Ossessione
Luchino Visconti (Italy, 1943). With a deft mixture of authenticity, narrative suspense, and ambiguous passions, Visconti transposes James M. Cain's The Postman Always Rings Twice to a Po Valley trattoria. “An extraordinarily majestic, elegant, and romantic movie.”—Vincent Canby, New York Times (140 mins)

Friday, November 26, 2010
8:00 p.m. The Killers
Robert Siodmak (U.S., 1946). Two big-city toughs invade a small-town diner looking for “The Swede,” in this blood-pulsing noir, based on a story by Hemingway and costarring Ava Gardner and Edmond O’Brien. Lancaster’s first screen role. (103 mins)

Saturday, November 27, 2010
8:40 p.m. Brute Force
Jules Dassin (U.S., 1947). Famed blacklisted director Dassin (Night and the City) teamed with Lancaster for this hard-hitting noir about life inside prison walls. “Part antifascist tract, part existential allegory.”—NY Times (94 mins)

I'd love to go see any of these three, they all look interesting.

jenneke_olson@berkeley.edu said

at 2:08 pm on Nov 1, 2010

As of right now, I'd be interested in going to see some of these, I think it'd be fun.

Mazzin said

at 8:43 pm on Nov 1, 2010

OssessioneLuchino is an Italian Neo-Realist film huh, it may be a bit depressing and mundane.

"The Killers" I would LOVE to see. I loved the short story and I did not know there was a film about it. Lets all go see it!

Sara Sol said

at 5:36 pm on Nov 2, 2010

David Walter said

at 5:56 pm on Nov 2, 2010

yeah, there is a chance that the holiday could complicate things -- but "the killers" is a super movie. i like it better than the story. i'm going to try my darndest to make it.

I didn't realize it was the weekend of Thanksgiving. I'll have to play it by ear :/

Jack Gedney said

at 7:42 am on Nov 5, 2010

I've been meaning to see The Killers and Brute Force. May the Thanksgiving gods smile upon our endeavors.

Tomorrow 6:45pm In Kabukis theater the 5 1/2 epic "Carlos" is playing! It's by a French director and follows Ramirez Sanchez an international gangster/terrorist from the 70's to the 80's. Its getting lot of attention and great reviews, if anyone is interested in seeing it let me know.
